What Is A Cup?

A period or menstrual cup, is a reusable, eco-friendly alternative to pads and tampons. Made from soft, medical-grade silicone, it is folded and gently inserted into the vagina. It unfolds and forms a seal against the vaginal walls to collect menstrual fluid. The cup can be worn for 8-12 hours depending on your flow and is available in various sizes for different body types and needs. It’s cost-effective as it lasts for up to 10 years with proper care, reducing waste and monthly product purchases. Shell yeah!

How To Use

  1. To insert: Always start with clean hands. Sterilise your cup with boiling water.
  2. Fold your cup in your preferred way. There are many ways to fold your cup, you can learn more about the folds below.
  3. Get in a comfy position and breathe deeply to relax.
  4. Insert the cup : Hold the folded cup firmly and insert it into your vagina, angling it toward your tailbone (not straight up). It should sit lower than a tampon but still inside enough that it’s comfortable.
  5. Once it’s in, let go so the cup can gently release open. You might need to twist it slightly or run your finger around the base to make sure it’s fully open and sealed.
  6. It can stay in for up to 12 hours depending on your flow. You can also exercise, sleep, or swim with it

Always stay gentle and patient, your body knows the way. Trust yourself.

How to remove

  1. First wash your hands.
  2. Then, relax your pelvic muscles and find a comfortable position—sitting, squatting, or standing with one leg raised can help.
  3. Gently insert your fingers and pinch the base of the cup to release the suction seal.
  4. Wiggle it side to side while slowly pulling down. Keep the cup upright to avoid spills.
  5. Once out, empty the contents into the toilet, rinse with water (or wipe if you're on the go), and reinsert or store as needed.

Cup folds

We know you will find the perfect fold for you over time. Here is some more information about the common cup folds:

  • C Fold

This beginner friendly fold shapes your cup into a soft curve, kind of like a blooming petal.

Step 1: Gently pinch the cup flat between your fingers.

Step 2: Fold the two edges inward so it forms a soft “C” shape.

  • 7 Fold

This one may sound complex, but it’s beautifully simple once you get the hang of it.

Step 1: Flatten your cup by pinching it between your hands.

Step 2: Fold one top corner diagonally down toward the base. You’ll either get a sleek triangle or a soft “7” shape—both work!

  • Push in

A little more technique, but super popular due to it's small, easy-to-insert tip.

Step 1: Hold the base of the cup with one hand.

Step 2: With your other hand, press one part of the rim all the way down into the base.

Step 3: While keeping the fold in place, pinch the sides together to hold that narrow ripple shape.

  • Clean hands

Thoroughly wash your hands with soap and water.

  • Sterilise your cup

Fill a clean pot with enough water to fully submerge your cup. Bring it to a rolling boil. Submerge your cup in boiling water for 3-5 minutes.

  • Keep clean until insertion

Carefully remove the cup with clean tongs or a spoon, then place it on a clean surface or towel to air dry completely before use.

Tips

  • At each emptying, rinse the cup with clean water & mild soap if available.
  • If you can’t rinse, wipe it clean and wash it at the next opportunity.
  • Avoid harsh cleansers like vinegar or bleach and strongly scented or fragranced cleansers that may cause the silicone to deteriorate.
  • Avoid soaking cup in anything other than water.
  • Boil your cup in water for 3–5 minutes at the end of each cycle.
  • Store it in a clean, breathable pouch, not an airtight container.

Air holes

Before using your menstrual cup, check that the 4 holes in the lipped rim of the cup are clear. These holes play an important part in creating the seal that allows the cup to stay in place.

When the cup is removed, checking that the air holes are clean is important.

More about the folds

We know you will find the perfect flow fold for you over time. Here is some more information about the common cup folds:

The C-Fold

This beginner friendly fold shapes your cup into a soft curve, kind of like a blooming petal.

Step 1: Gently pinch the cup flat between your fingers.

Step 2: Fold the two edges inward so it forms a soft “C” shape.

The Ripple Fold

A little more technique, but super popular due to it's small, easy-to-insert tip.

Step 1: Hold the base of the cup with one hand.

Step 2: With your other hand, press one part of the rim all the way down into the base.

Step 3: While keeping the fold in place, pinch the sides together to hold that narrow ripple shape.

The Spiral Fold

This one may sound complex, but it’s beautifully simple once you get the hang of it.

Step 1: Flatten your cup by pinching it between your hands.

Step 2: Fold one top corner diagonally down toward the base. You’ll either get a sleek triangle or a soft “7” shape—both work!

Will it leak?

Not if it’s inserted properly and the seal is good. Leaks usually mean:

  • It didn’t fully open
  • It’s not positioned correctly
  • It’s full and needs to be emptied

Can it get stuck or lost inside me?

Nope! There’s nowhere for it to go. Your cervix acts like a barrier. Sometimes it may move up higher, but with a slight internal push like action (like you're pooping), you can always reach it.

How do I clean it in public bathrooms?

  • Wipe it with toilet paper or a clean tissue, then reinsert.
  • Or bring a small bottle of water to rinse it over the toilet.
  • Clean thoroughly when you're back home.

Is it safe to use a cup if I have an IUD?

Yes, but be gentle when removing it to avoid tugging the IUD string. Some doctors suggest leaving extra string length or checking with them first.
